What is the P3Tips app and how do I use it?

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — You’ve heard us say it numerous times — you can submit a tip through the P3Tips app, but police say some are confused as to how to use the app properly.

It’s both a website – it’s www.P3Tips.com – and an app that you can find in the app store. When you download it, a page will appear asking you to create a four-digit passcode. This will ensure that only you are signing in. After that, you choose the region you live in, the state and then your city.

Submitting a tip is easy. You get a list of options — from arson and burglary to theft and warrants. The Crime Line coordinator with that city’s police department receives those tips and gets to work.
