PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — One Portsmouth sheriff's candidate said his campaign signs have been the target of vandalism and thefts this election season.
James “Jim” Cullen, who is running for Portsmouth Sheriff, told 10 On Your Side some of his campaign signs have been torn up, run over and even stolen.
"We had a real spike of it in the last 24 to 48 hours, lot of signs being destroyed around the city," Cullen said.
Cullen said it’s a problem every election season.
But for him, the vandalism started as soon as he announced his candidacy. He put signs up at CJ's Hand Car Wash with the owner's permission, but it didn’t take long for the problems to start.
