The new Archbishop of Canterbury will be revealed this morning – almost a year after Justin Welby’s dramatic fall from grace.

Downing Street will make the announcement at 10am before the Archbishop-designate addresses Canterbury Cathedral, signalling the start of a new era for the Church of England after one of the most turbulent chapters in its recent history.

Two women are among the favourites to take on the post , which would mark a historic first for the church if either is chosen.

One is the Rt Rev Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, the Bishop of Chelmsford. She fled Iran as a teenager after her family was targeted during the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Her father, also an Anglican Bishop, and mother survived an assassination attempt in the late 1970s. She and her parents settled in Hampsh
