A coven of witches has been left disappointed after the church decided they could not hold their psychic fair in a village hall just six days before it was due to take place.

The event, planned by the Coven of the Sacred Oak, was scheduled for Bredhurst Village Hall on Sunday, October 5, after the women booked the venue in July.

But on Monday afternoon (September 29) organiser Simone Kempson, a healer from Bredhurst, said she received a call from the parish council clerk telling her the booking could not go ahead.

Simone said: “She mentioned there was an archaic clause in the hall’s lease that meant it could only be used for Christian purposes.

“We were shocked. We’d booked months ago and even offered to donate half the proceeds to the church.”
