A serious grass fire has triggered a major police and emergency response , with residents warned to stay clear as crews battle the blaze.

Authorities declared an emergency zone under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) near Enoggera Reservoir and Camp Mountain, about 40 min northwest of Brisbane , Queensland , on Friday afternoon.

Queensland Police said officers were called just after 2pm following reports of a grass fire at Camp Mountain.

Dry bushland and strong winds fanned the flames, pushing the fire dangerously close to homes and putting properties at risk .

Multiple holmes were evacuated, police confirmed.
