After days of waiting, the Blue Jays have an American League division series opponent after the New York Yankees won a winner-take-all showdown against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night — 4-0 in Game 3 of their wild-card series.
It took 162 games to crown an AL East champion between the Jays and Yankees, who finished with identical records, and now it comes down to a best-of-five series starting Saturday at the Rogers Centre at 4:08 p.m.
The teams will stay put for Sunday’s game at 4:08 p.m., then head to New York for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday. A potential Game 5 would be back in Toronto on Oct. 10.
Toronto and New York have gone head-to-head more than 700 times in the regular season, but this will be their first meeting in the playoffs.
