A 50-year-old felon was shot and killed by police Thursday morning after he pulled a revolver out of his waistband and pointed it at two Honolulu Police Department officers on Punchbowl Street, according to Interim Police Chief Rade K. Vanic.
At about 10:15 a.m., patrol officers responded to a call reporting a man with a gun who was “expressing suicidal thoughts,” Vanic said at a news conference.
About five minutes later, officers approached the man who was standing on the sidewalk in front of The Queen’s Medical Center. The man reached into his waistband, pulled out a revolver and pointed it at the officers, Vanic said.
The responding officers “fired shots striking the male,” he said. The 50-year-old was taken into Queen’s and treated but he “succumbed to his injuries.”
