The accent is similar, but there has been a new voice on the ice and in the meeting rooms at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex since the Penguins opened training camp.

Dan Muse, a 43-year-old Massachusetts native, was hired in June as the successor to two-time Stanley Cup winner Mike Sullivan. It is Muse’s first NHL head coaching gig. Twice before, he was an NHL assistant. He also coached in college and juniors.

Muse brought a lot of energy at the onset of his first camp, so much that he barely had his voice after two days of practice. Since then, after the former teacher shifted his focus to introducing systematic changes, we have seen Muse dial it back a bit.
