JACKSON — A Mississippi death row inmate is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to halt his scheduled execution, arguing that his trial attorneys violated his Sixth Amendment rights by conceding his guilt against his wishes.

In a filing addressed to Justice Samuel Alito, attorneys for Charles Ray Crawford said he is set to be executed Oct. 15. They argue his case should be reviewed in light of the 2018 U.S. Supreme Court decision McCoy v. Louisiana, which held that a defendant has the right to insist that counsel not admit guilt at trial.
