A frosty start to next week is expected across western Montana, and the National Weather Service is issuing a winter storm watch for some high-elevation areas this weekend.

Montana valleys are likely to see temperatures 25 degrees or lower Sunday night into Monday morning, according to Trent Parker, a meteorologist with the NWS office in Missoula. The Blackfoot River corridor and areas from Deer Lodge to Butte are likely to see temperatures fall to 20 or lower, he said.

"We've had some patchy frost here and there" in the Missoula Valley, Parker said. "But really this is going to be the first significant, widespread frost or freeze for pretty much everyone."
