Berklee College of Music , a private institution based in Boston's Back Bay, is laying off 70 employees to mitigate "budget challenges," the school announced.

Jim Lucchese, Berklee's president, wrote in a letter to faculty and staff that the college is "not immune to the mounting pressures facing higher education."

"Rising costs, a dynamic enrollment environment, and shifting national policies have presented challenges that, if left unaddressed, could negatively impact our ability to deliver on our academic mission," Lucchese wrote.

Berklee has 40% international enrollment , and the Trump administration has targeted international students as part of a broader immigration crackdown.
