Kingston Health Sciences Centre has acquired a second surgical robot to add to its robotics program.

The purchase will allow the hospital organization to double the number of robotic-assisted procedures it does each year.

Since the foundation of the A. Britton Smith Q.C. Robotics Program in 2018, KHSC has grown from about 130 robotic-assisted surgeries to more than 400 each year, the organization said in a media release this week.

While the program initially focused on urology, it now includes gynaecology, colorectal and thoracic surgeries. Other departments are getting involved as well.
