DEWEY, AZ (AZFamily) — A housekeeper is accused of stealing a $35,000 wedding ring from an elderly northern Arizona woman.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53-year-old Michelle Peterson, of Prescott, in connection with the crime.

Deputies say the investigation started on Sept. 12, when a Dewey woman in her 80s reported to authorities that her wedding ring was missing from her home. The theft was believed to have happened two days earlier, when Peterson was at the victim’s home for housekeeping.

Detectives launched an investigation, following online leads and other evidence. A detective identified Peterson as the suspect and took her into custody on Sept. 24.
