Eric Adams officially ended his reelection bid for mayor on Monday, pulling the plug on a campaign that has been hemorrhaging support for months. Adams’ withdrawal leaves three candidates remaining with just over a month until Election Day: Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa and independent candidate Andrew Cuomo.

Adams’ withdrawal marks a political win for Andrew Cuomo, who has long maintained that his best chance of winning is to consolidate the anti-Mamdani vote, a bloc of moderate Democrats and Republicans currently splitting votes between Cuomo and Sliwa.

“Mayor Adams did the right thing for New York, and I hope Curtis Sliwa will put the city above himself, lest he plays the spoiler and walks Mamdani into City Hall against the will of the majority,”
