CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 35-year-old man has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in northwest Charlotte on Wednesday evening, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department .

Luis Alberto Miranda Vilchis faces charges of felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run, no operator's license and improper registration.

CMPD responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road at around 8:26 p.m. They found James Leon Hall, 58, lying in the road with life-threatening injuries. Medic transported Hall to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

Witnesses told CMPD Hall was struck by a Chevrolet SUV that left the scene traveling south on Beatties Ford Road.
