The former candidate in the upcoming municipal election who was charged in a conjugal violence case this week will remain detained over the weekend after a judge was informed Friday that Dani Mbyoui Muzungu faces more charges.
Muzungu, 26, who was running for councillor in the Snowdon district with the Futur Montréal party, appeared before Quebec Court Judge Joëlle Roy by video conference Friday afternoon. He is detained at the Montreal Dentention Centre and will remain there at least until Tuesday.
Defence lawyer Charles Benmouyal informed the court that new charges were filed against his client on Friday before asking that the two cases be carried over to Tuesday. The two new charges allege that Muzungu was in possession of fake passports earlier this week, probably when he was arreste
