It was about one year ago when the northern lights dazzled the sky in North Jersey creating a beautiful display with shades of purple in the atmosphere.

On Oct. 10, 2024, geomagnetic storms were in the space forecast that created the northern lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis. Typically, the colorful skies can be seen in northern states in the Midwest or upstate New York, but a year ago New Jersey residents were treated with a spectacular scene.

Residents from North Jersey towns such as Oradell, Montclair Oakland, Wood-Ridge, Mahwah and others shared their pictures of the breathtaking sky.

Days before Oct. 10, 2024, the northern lights made another visit to New Jersey, this time in areas of Sussex, Ocean and Cape May counties.
