LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — Thousands of homeowners in the Las Vegas Valley say they are concerned about being strapped with surprise fees and five-figure home repairs they can’t afford.

Concerned residents packed meetings across the valley last week to oppose proposed regulations on septic tanks—rules that health district officials say are currently on hold. Still, homeowners say the fight isn’t over. They want to ensure leaders won’t force drastic changes and costs onto their homes.

Samantha Linares said that when she built her home near Fort Apache Road and Lone Mountain Road in 2002, there was no option but to install a septic tank.

“We spent a lot of money paying for the well, paying for the septic, and keeping the septic in running order,” Linares said.
