Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch may be evaluating his players — OK, not Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who get a pass — throughout training camp when the head knock is assessing who fits where on the opening-night roster.

The Oilers will carry two goalies, 13 forwards and eight defencemen to start.

If we’re going off training camp, Noah Philp deserves to be on the squad and Curtis Lazar might lose the fourth-line centre challenge, but that’s just surmising, and there’s the always-fluid injury issues.
