MARION, N.C. — A vital bridge that was destroyed by Hurricane Helene has been successfully replaced with a new, permanent stronger bridge in McDowell County, NCDOT announced.
The bridge on Pitts Station Road connects a neighborhood and Baxter Healthcare, the largest manufacturer of IV fluid and peritoneal dialysis solutions in the country, with the rest of the world.
“Our No. 1 priority over the past year at NCDOT has been to restore transportation and help folks in western North Carolina recover from the most destructive storm in North Carolina history,” State Transportation Secretary Daniel H. Johnson said. “We are reconnecting McDowell county’s largest private employer with a crucial public highway, and we are reconnecting that highway to a neighborhood with families.”
