CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A 58-year-old man was killed in an alleged hit-and-run in north Charlotte on Wednesday night, according to Charlotte police.

Police said on Wednesday, Oct. 1, around 8:25 p.m., officers responded to Beatties Ford Road near LaSalle Street.

When officers arrived, they found a man, identified as 58-year-old James Hall, lying in the road with life-threatening injuries. Medic transferred Hall to a hospital where he died.

Charlotte police said they spoke with witnesses, and they said that Hall was hit by a Chevrolet SUV that fled south on Beatties Ford Road.

Police said that Hall was crossing the road outside of the designated crosswalk when he was hit by the SUV at a high rate of speed.
