WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — After more than two decades in business, 6th & Vine restaurant and wine bar in Winston-Salem will close its doors on Sunday, Oct. 19.

Owner Kathleen Barnes announced the decision Friday afternoon on Facebook, saying the restaurant has been her “heart and soul” for nearly 21 years.

The popular downtown spot was opened by Barnes’ father, with her mother helping support the early staff. Her daughter, Abby, was just 4 years old when she helped paint the space and now 24, she works as a manager and bartender.

Longtime colleagues, including Geoffrey Bishop, who has worked alongside Barnes for more than 15 years, and former employee Liz Alesi-Martin, who spent 17 years at the restaurant, will be part of the final weekend.
