BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. —

Buncombe County is taking a look back at Hurricane Helene and the county's response to the storm while preparing for any future events.

Hurricane Helene devastated Buncombe County, killing dozens and displacing hundreds. One year later, county manager Avril Pinder said they're looking back on their response.

"So we just want to have their perspective so we can be better prepared the next time," she said. "Buncombe County is considered a climate haven. And so we were not prepared for a storm. We didn't have the infrastructure in place for a storm."

She said the county saw success by partnering with local groups.
