With lawmakers still working out the state budget, when the Mason County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday for a special meeting and work session, commissioners approved a resolution opposing House of Representatives’ budget cuts to county revenue sharing for fiscal year 2026.

Summarized, the resolution states that seeing how counties are mandated by the State to provide essential public services such as courts, jails, elections, public health, public safety and human services, but unlike cities, villages and townships, counties do not receive constitutionally guaranteed revenue sharing, which leaves counties “uniquely vulnerable” to yearly state budget decisions.
