PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN)- Giant Eagle Inc. announced in a press release Friday that they are issuing a voluntary recall of its Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The company said that the pasta salad was sold at Giant Eagle and Market District locations across western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, and Indiana. Giant Eagle said that this recall was in response to a nationwide recall of ready-to-eat pasta originating from Nate’s Fine Foods.

According to the press release, Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly individuals, and others with weakened immune systems.
