RICHMOND, Ky. (FOX 56) — Traffic has been closed in both directions in the area of Merchant Drive and the Dr. Robert R. Martin Bypass on Saturday afternoon, according to the Richmond Police Department.

Department officials said that around 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 4, investigators had been dispatched to the area in response to a two-vehicle crash.

"Drivers are encouraged to choose an alternate route if you are headed toward this intersection," Richmond officers wrote on Facebook.

RPD officials told FOX 56 News in Lexington that one of the vehicles involved had one occupant, with a family in the other vehicle.

"Many of them" were taken to a local hospital, investigators said. Their conditions are not known at this time.
