While Indianapolis police haven't provided details on why they believe former NFL star Mark Sanchez was stabbed here early Oct. 4, a new statement from the mayor reinforces the department's assertion that it was an isolated incident among two out-of-towners.

"I'm monitoring reports of an altercation in our city involving two individuals who do not appear to live in Indianapolis," Mayor Joe Hogsett said in the statement, posted on X . "Our city takes pride in being a destination that draws people from near and far, but it's important that everyone who visits or enjoys our community does so respectfully and peacefully."

Sanchez, in Indianapolis to call Sunday's Colts game, was in stable condition at a hospital Saturday after being injured, his employer, Fox Sports, confirmed.
