GLENVAR, Va. (WDBJ) - A woman is recovering after being attacked by a dog while walking along Ingal Boulevard, according to Roanoke County Officials.

Neighbor Jonathan Ayers says he captured the incident on his Ring doorbell camera.

“Elderly woman’s just coming down the street and pit bulls in the front yard, no fence, just goes right for her,” Ayers said.

He says the scene quickly turned chaotic.

“You can hear her screaming and it was so primal. It was almost like an animal screaming. It was just, awful,” Ayers recalled.

Police say another neighbor tried to stop the attack by firing a gun into the air. Officers then used a taser to scare the dog off but it came back. That’s when an officer shot and killed it.
