MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Middleton High School and Glacier Creek Middle School hosted their annual memorial invitational race Saturday.

For the past four years, they have held this event in memory Evan Kratochwill, a Middleton High School student who died in 2021 alongside his two friends, Jack Miller and Simon Bilessi. They were killed by a drunk driver, who is now serving an 18-year prison sentence.

Community members honored Kratochwill, who ran cross-country, in an early morning walk/run. This was then followed by races for regional middle and high school athletes who were invited to the meet.

Although many of today’s runners didn’t know Kratochwill personally, they still felt the impact of his tragic death.
