Honolulu Fire Department personnel rescued an injured hiker in her 20s on the Kaena Point Trail today.

HFD said 18 personnel responded to a 12:04 p.m. 911 call with the first firefighters arriving at 12:22 p.m.

A landing zone was prepared and Air 1 took a rescuer to the woman, who was unable to descend the trail on her own, according to a HFD news release.

The rescuer medically assessed the hiker and provided basic life support before she was airlifted to the landing zone, HFD said.

The woman’s medical care was transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services at 1:14 p.m.

HFD officials urge hikers to assess their fitness levels and hiking capabilities and compare them to the trail description. Hikers should be practical and realistic in finding a trail that suits them, they said.
