ORANGEBURG — S.C. State University’s campus is on lockdown after a shooting at a campus dorm, according to an alert posted to the school’s website .
Campus police are asking the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate the incident at the Hugine Suites residence hall the evening of Oct. 4.
Anyone who is not a current student should not try to come to campus, the alert said.
Officials asked people at Hugine Suites to “stay put.” Residents who were not there should report to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center, the school’s basketball arena, and students living in other residence halls should go back to their rooms.
Off-campus residents were asked to leave campus.
No further details were available around 11 p.m., according to a university spokesman.
