STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A basement renovation in Annadale unearthed a piece of Brooklyn history that, six years later, would reunite a family with their childhood home.

Over half a decade ago, Norma Callahan and her husband, Jason Callahan, were renovating the basement in their historic home when they made a surprising discovery -- a collection of items within the ceiling.

“Jason was taking the ceiling down and he found a large metal sign that had a last name on it, and two old vintage whiskey bottles,” said Norma. “He also found a wrapped up newspaper.”

The couple posted about the time capsule-like find on their neighborhood Facebook group, hoping to learn more about their home and its history, as well as return the sign to the named family.
