A jury has made a series of recommendations to help avoid future deaths following a week-long inquest into the death five years ago of a Sarnia Jail inmate.

Brent Moore, 40, died on Aug. 30, 2020, two days after he was found with a bed sheet tied around his neck and without vital signs in his cell at the Christina Street North jail and rushed to Bluewater Health. He’d only been arrested just over a week earlier on drug trafficking charges and although he appeared to write a note at some point expressing mental health concerns, most of the staff and witnesses called to testify during the Sept. 22-26 virtual inquest were shocked and surprised to learn of his suicide.

The inquest, mandatory under the Coroners Act, examined the circumstances surrounding his death and the jury was allowed
