A Philadelphia police officer is recovering in the hospital after being injured trying to stop a driver in a stolen vehicle late Saturday night, police said.

According to police, around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, officers responded to a report of a disorderly crowd on the 2500 block of Church Street.

When the officers arrived at the scene, police said they found a black BMW that had been reported as stolen.

Police said as an officer approached the driver’s side and held the door open, the driver suddenly reversed the vehicle, striking a marked police car. The officer’s hand became caught between the door and the vehicle.
