ATLANTA — Geoff Duncan went on a political odyssey over the last half-decade.

He spent the bulk of his political life as a Republican, rising to statewide office as Georgia's Lieutenant Governor by 2019.

But in 2020, friction began to emerge between Duncan and other Georgia Republicans over the fallout of the hotly contested presidential election and other high-profile issues.

He began steadily drifting from his party. By 2024, he endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris for president and spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

This summer, he formally switched to the Democratic Party.

Now he's running for statewide office once again -- this time as a Democrat.
