ALEXANDRIA — Audrey Brownell ran a first-place 18:31.9 to win the 52nd Lions Meet of Champions by 30 seconds.

Brownell’s win, coupled with Elise Trif’s 92nd-place finish and Aleea Holst’s 103rd-place finish, helped the Staples-Motley Cardinals girls to 18th.

The SM boys finished 22nd and were led by Gage Bjerga’s 77th-place 18:24.6.

DULUTH — Grant Nelson ran a first-place 17:30.6 to lead the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines to the team title of the Class 1A Division of the Swain Invite Saturday, Oct. 4.

WDC’s Owen Anderson finished 11th in 18:17.0, followed by Lane Kaufman in 17th and Evan Schmidt in 20th.

The WDC girls finished sixth and were led by Karly Haverkamp’s ninth-place 21:23.5. Lydia Oldakowski finished 26th and Cambrie Geiger was 28th.
