WASHINGTON, Iowa —
An eastern Iowa school is honoring the life of a senior student who was fatally shot in a hunting accident last week.
Washington High School posthumously crowned 17-year-old Carson Ryan homecoming king. Ryan was accidentally shot and killed by someone in his group while squirrel hunting, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
The community is honoring Ryan during other homecoming activities, which include custom black-and-orange shirts featuring his football jersey number and hand-painted window signs.
A funeral service for Ryan is scheduled for Monday morning.
