CINCINNATI – Free Press sports writer Dave Birkett grades the Detroit Lions ’ performance after their 37-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at Paycor Stadium.

Jared Goff was his usual efficient self , completing 19-of-23 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns. Goff did commit one turnover, losing a fumble on a first-half sack when he lost the ball while attempting a pass. But he didn’t put the ball in harm’s way downfield and he kept the offense moving on a day it leaned more heavily on the run. Seven different players caught passes for the Lions and Goff was flawless on a seven-play game-opening touchdown drive in which the Lions didn’t face a third down. Grade: A
