Australians have raged over the increasing popularity of tipping in the service industry, after a customer shared a bill in an attempt to help others avoid a potential payment trap.

A Redditor shared a screenshot of his digital bill from a cafe, saying it automatically had a five per cent tip selected on the screen - something that could easily be missed by those looking to pay quickly.

The other options on the screen were a 10 per cent or a 20 per cent tip, and if the customer opted not to pay a tip they had to select "other" and then manually type $0.00.

Many called on the author of the post to name and shame, but they opted not to as they "don't feel good blasting them" or opening up an avenue for others to lash the business, which they said was located in Coogee.
