While residents in the Weyburn area woke up to a crisp -4° morning, the frost that came with it is having virtually no effect on the 2025 harvest.
According to Dale Paslawski, a farmer from the Cedoux area north of Weyburn, the timing of the frost shouldn't be too harmful.
"The impact of frost will have zero impact on harvest right now," Paslawski stated. He explained that since it's later in the year, a frost is not unexpected. More importantly, the vast majority of the work is already done. "I would think around 90% totally done harvest," he estimated.
While the frost will certainly finish your garden off, the few crops like flax that some farmers are still working on should not be harmed by the cold snap.
