A mother in Brazoria County, Texas, near the Houston area, is facing murder and aggravated assault charges after authorities say she shot and killed two of her children and injured two others.

The shootings happened the morning of Saturday, Oct. 4, authorities shared in a news release .

According to authorities, the mother, who USA TODAY is not naming to protect the privacy of the surviving children involved, fatally shot her 3-year-old daughter and her 13-year-old son . Two other children, ages 8 and 9, were life-flighted to a hospital in critical condition.
