The alleged gunman at the centre of a terrifying shooting in Sydney's inner west is set to face court after being hit with a raft of serious charges.

Artemios Mintzas, aged 60, has been identified as the man who allegedly fired 50 or more bullets at police officers and members of the public from an apartment at Croydon Park on Sunday evening.

Among those injured in the incident included a man who presented himself to hospital with a gunshot wound before taken to another hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Mr Mintzas was arrested and taken hospital under police guard after suffering injuries during his arrest.

He was released from hospital later on Monday before he was taken into police custody.
