WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - The North Country experienced record heat on Monday as temperatures soared into the 80s.

As of 2 p.m., the following communities tied or broke records:

Lowville: 84 degrees; tied 1937 record.

Fort Drum: 82 degrees; shattered 1976 record of 75 degrees

Massena: 83 degrees; 2005 record was 81 degrees

Canton: 83 degrees; old record of 82 was set in 1991

At the Watertown International Airport, it reached 80 degrees, not enough to break the 1990 record of 82.

It was a dry summer, and so far, it has been a dry fall. Drought warnings are in effect for St. Lawrence and Lewis counties. Jefferson County is under a drought watch.

Almost all creeks and streams flow into the Black River, but the Black isn’t being fed with much water.
