PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday for Amkor’s microchip facility, being built in the West Valley, as Arizona continues to be at the forefront of the U.S. semiconductor manufacturing boom.
Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, along with Sens. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, were in attendance, along with other key industry officials and dignitaries, during the ceremony.
The tech firm is building on a 104-acre site at what’s known as the Peoria Innovation Core near Lake Pleasant Parkway and the Loop 303 . Amkor’s $2 billion investment is expected to create about 2,000 jobs .
