ST. LOUIS – After being sworn in as Missouri’s first woman Attorney General last month, Catherine Hanaway promised to continue her predecessor’s ongoing legal battle with with St. Louis Sheriff Alfred Montgomery.

Late Monday afternoon, Hanaway made two posts on the X social media app saying she’d asked the Missouri Supreme Court “to hold … Montgomery accountable after he repeatedly refused to cooperate with discovery requests…”

The attorney general did not elaborate on what holding the sheriff accountable means.

Hanaway went on to say that Missourians deserve “honesty and transparency" from elected officials, and that “the rule of law must apply equally to everyone.”
