Defence Minister Richard Marles has doubled down on pleas for demonstrations to not be held on October 7, as the federal government commemorates two years since Hamas' attack on Israel.

Tuesday, October 7 marks two years since more than 1,200 people were killed as Hamas attacked Israel, in what became the greatest number of murders of Jewish people since the Holocaust.

A "Glory to our Martyrs" demonstration, organised by Stand for Palestine Australia, is set to take place in Bankstown later on the day in plans labelled "shockingly insensitive" by NSW Premier Chris Minns.

The Free Palestine Coalition Group has also urged people to gather near the National Gallery of Victoria for an event named Honouring Palestine.
