BOSTON — Zdeno Chara is a major presence for the Bruins once again.

The massive former captain joined Boston’s front office as a hockey operations advisor and mentor last month. Chara has begun advising both players and coaches with a focus on relationship building and fostering strong communication. He’ll work with the team’s player development staff, too.

According to general manager Don Sweeney, Chara is all in on the new role and continues to evolve at 48 years old.

“Zdeno has embraced this advisory/mentorship role,” Sweeney said. “To me, that just sends a message that he sees what guys are capable of doing and he wants to go out and help them, not unlike himself when he first got here.
