The hanging death of a Black man in Albuquerque more than a year ago has stirred calls for a more rigorous investigation by police, who have determined 28-year-old Jayvon Maurice Givan died by suicide.
Givan, who had ties to Santa Fe, was found dead one morning in September 2024 in a shopping area in Albuquerque, according to police reports.
But his out-of-state family members learned about the incident just last week after his sister called police to report him missing. Some community members and activists now question whether he took his own life.
