LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A planned regular London city council meeting took a turn on Monday when the council members did not show up.

Despite no quorum for the meeting, a discussion was held about one council member allegedly using a racial slur in court during a domestic violence case. Some prominent leaders from out of town spoke on racial issues.

People on Monday packed into the London Community Center to talk about a heavy topic, racism.

“We have a councilman who has been charged with a crime of domestic violence and using racial slurs. We wanted to address the situation and step down,” said local resident Leigh Ann Howard.

The meeting featured two prominent speakers, Lexington NAACP President Whit Whitaker and former State Representative Charles Booker, who spoke on racism.
