Last season, the Michigan men’s basketball team played fast. Getting out in transition and looking for quick shots as often as they could, the Wolverines’ average offensive possession in conference play lasted 16.1 seconds per KenPom , faster than any other Big Ten team.
Sept. 30 at Michigan Media Day, the Wolverines’ pace suggested they don’t want to take their foot of the gas for this upcoming season either. In practice, after every change of possession — whether a turnover, rebound or made shot — the offense raced up court, looking to catch the defense off guard. And if it wasn’t fast enough, Michigan coach Dusty May let his players hear it.
